Videostroboscopy for the evaluation of voice disorders

Videostroboscopy is a modern, state-of-the-art examination used to assess vocal function and is performed by a specialized ENT surgeon with expertise in voice disorders (phoniatrics).
By recording and analyzing the mucosal wave of the vocal folds, videostroboscopy allows assessment of vocal frequency (Hz) and detailed evaluation of vocal fold pathology, including vocal nodules, polyps, vocal fold fixation and dysphonia. It is particularly valuable for professional voice users such as singers, broadcasters, teachers, lawyers, actors and other professionals who rely on their voice.

The examination is performed in the clinic and takes only a short time. No special preparation is required, and it is completely painless and well tolerated.
The videostroboscopy system is supported by a state-of-the-art STORZ camera, providing high-quality visualization and excellent diagnostic accuracy.

The examination allows detailed assessment of vocal intensity (dB), vocal frequency (Hz), and the quality and regularity of vocal fold vibration. These parameters are particularly useful in evaluating whether the voice is being produced with proper or inappropriate vocal technique.
In combination with the STORZ endoscopic camera system, the examination provides a detailed analysis of vocal fold vibration and the characteristics of phonation, while recording even subtle abnormalities in vocal fold movement.
This enables the accurate detection of vocal fold lesions such as nodules, which may be difficult or impossible to identify during a routine laryngeal endoscopic examination alone.

Videostroboscopy can also help diagnose vocal fold polyps, thickening and Reinke's edema, as well as polypoid degeneration of the vocal folds, which is commonly associated with smoking.
In addition, videostroboscopy may help detect early changes suggestive of laryngeal malignancy that may not be apparent through conventional examination alone. Early disease may present with impaired fixation or movement of a vocal fold, resulting in disruption of the normal mucosal wave.
