For the treatment of an enlarged or restrictive lingual frenulum (tongue-tie), which may cause difficulties with speech or articulation in both children and adults, radiofrequency (RF) is one of the most modern treatment methods available.
Radiofrequency uses high-frequency radio waves applied to the tissue, allowing highly precise surgical treatment with minimal bleeding and minimal thermal damage to the surrounding tissues.
How is Lingual Frenulum Surgery Performed in the Clinic?
The procedure for releasing the lingual frenulum is simple and is performed in the clinic. It takes no more than approximately 10 minutes.
First, minimal local anesthesia is applied by placing a small cotton swab soaked with a small amount of local anesthetic under the tongue for 2–3 minutes. A specialized radiofrequency electrode, extremely fine and comparable in size to a hair, is then used to release the lingual frenulum. The actual procedure takes less than one minute.
The procedure is virtually painless and bloodless, allowing the patient to return to normal activities immediately afterwards.
No stitches or visible scars are required. Thanks to the advanced radiofrequency technology and the extremely fine electrode, the incision can be performed with a high degree of precision while minimizing injury to the surrounding tissues.
How Are Adenoid Vegetations (“Adenoids”) Treated with Radiofrequency?
Radiofrequency (RF) at 4 MHz can be used for the bloodless removal of enlarged adenoid vegetations (adenoids). This technique allows precise treatment of the adenoid tissue while minimizing bleeding and tissue trauma.
Removal of adenoid vegetations using RF is associated with minimal bleeding and postoperative discomfort, and in many cases the child can return home within a few hours following the procedure.
The procedure requires a short general anesthetic administered by a specialized pediatric anesthesiologist in an appropriately equipped medical center.
