How to diagnose adenoids problems in children in an efficient and safe way without the use of x-rays.
The traditional method for diagnosing enlarged adenoids in children is a lateral X-ray of the nasopharynx with the neck extended. However, to avoid exposing the child to radiation, a flexible video rhinoscopy examination can be performed.
The examination is performed easily and painlessly in the clinic in children over 5 years of age and requires only mild local anesthesia using a cotton pledget soaked in banana-flavored Xylocaine. The total duration of the camera examination does not exceed 5 minutes and provides a clear view of whether adenoids are present in the child's nasopharynx and the degree of their enlargement, which helps determine whether their removal is necessary.
The OLYMPUS flexible endoscope, manufactured in Japan using Japanese technology, provides images of very high resolution and clarity. Due to its very small diameter, just 3.2 mm, it is very convenient for the patient, allowing easy passage through the nasopharynx and the capture of images of the anatomical areas being examined.
Furthermore, thanks to its special, soft, rubber-like construction and hydrophilic coating, it glides smoothly through the nose without causing discomfort to the child. It is therefore ideal for children aged 5 years and older, thanks to its very small diameter and soft construction.
This way, the child avoids exposure to radiation during the examination with a conventional X-ray.
